Yegua Target Company, LLC
Yegua Field Targets are strong, durable, light weight, and have a low energy paddle design. Yegua Field Targets are designed to deliver
consistant reliability under heavy match use. These targets are ideal for AAFTA field target, hunter field target, International
Field Target and Pistol Field Target competitions. Yegua Field Targets will stand strong under the barrage of 20 foot-pound
airguns and will function flawlessly with airguns down to 5 foot-pounds when properly set up. The targets are stout and will
take the 20 foot pound PCP class hits year after year with no paddle deformation and little to no rounding of the kill zone edge.
All of our mechanisms and face plates are laser cut and each target is tuned and tested before they leave our shop.
Features
Yegua Target Company strives to make the best field targets available on the market. Careful design enhancements separate Yegua Target Company, LLC field targets from other field target designs found on the market today. Yegua Target Company, LLC design features include:
1. Reset strings attach to a peg on the front of the faceplate with a cable leader to prevent pellet spatter from cutting the reset string. Reset strings that pass through the faceplate are easily cut by pellet splatter and won’t be found on Yegua field targets. The peg on the faceplate takes the bulk of abuse from day-to-day pellet splatter, with the cable leader providing an extra measure of protection for flawless functionality year after year.
2. Skeletonized parts are found on substantial members in the tripping mechanism. This reduces the mass of the mechanism, provides a crisp and positive target release, and does not sacrifice the durability needed to survive years of use. The light weight yet stout design of the tripping mechanism makes the Yegua Target Company field targets ideal for low energy levels used in International Field Target and in Pistol Field Target competitions without compromising the strength of the mechanism.
3. Yegua field target face plates and tripping mechanisms are constructed from 7 gauge (approximately 3/16”) cold rolled steel plate. Parts will not warp with use. They will not pock mark from 20 foot pound pellet strikes. The paddles will not deform and punch through under heavy use as other designs are known to do. The 10 gauge (approximately 1/8”) steel bases will not twist when staking the targets for shooting or pulling them for storage. Yegua field targets are built tough where tough counts.
4. Minimal parts are used in the tripping mechanism. A simple design is easier to maintain, has fewer parts to break or become fouled with pellet spray, and is easier to clean and lubricate.
5. The base and base hinge points are made from one piece of 10 gauge steel plate. There are no joints to break or come loose. This provides a worry free, stable target platform that will endure years of use.
6. Yegua field targets incorporate a spring actuated tripping function for a quick, positive and complete face plate fall. There isn’t any doubt whether or not the sear has been tripped. Other designs have face plates and paddles that may rock back on either a light hit or a split shot. Yegua field targets don’t give any room for questions with their positive release and spring assisted tripping.
7. Every Yegua field target has a serial number stamped on the base plate. Yes, these targets are that unique.
8. Yegua field targets are designed with a minimum of metal joints. Metal joints require welding and become a stress point for failure.
9. Yegua field targets are designed to allow minor splits to trigger the target. It has been our experience that up to a quarter of the pellet may split on the faceplate before locking the tripping mechanism. The mass of the faceplate is key to this feature.
10. Yegua field targets will not shudder under the faceplate strike of a 20 ft/lb pellet strike. Other targets with light weight face plates may vibrate and “shudder” under a high energy strike, which may cause other targets to fall.
11. Yegua field targets have multiple mounting and staking holes in the base plate. This feature accommodates a wide variety of mounting systems, methods, and anchor/fastener diameters.
12. You will not find any of the Yegua parts held together with a DC “tack” weld. All parts are welded with an AC welder with full penetration and bonding. The few welded joints on a Yegua field target are NOT going to fail.
13. Yegua field targets fall nearly flat. When sitting down to shoot, a quick glance gives no doubt to the shooter that it is up and ready to shoot, or if it is down and needs reset.
14. A rubber bumper is placed at the back of the target. This provides some protection to wear points, limiting the hammer effect that can pound away until the target fails, or sear points wear until the target is no longer reliable. Yegua field targets are built to last, not to fail.
15. You can’t see it, but it’s there. The paddle arm in the trigger mechanism pivots on a flanged Oilite bearing. Oilite material is self-lubricating, highly wear resistant and corrosion resistant. A flanged bearing is used to assure correct tolerances are maintained in the pivot. Once oiled, the oil seeps into the pores of the Oilite bearing, much like a sponge, and keeps lubricating the pivot long past that of a standard bronze bearing. If you look closely at the bearing, you can see the pores in the Oilite material. The joint is designed so dirt and pellet spray cannot enter the bearing.
16. Every Yegua field target is mounted in a special box where it is tested with a 20 ft/lb gun to assure the faceplate will not rattle down with a high energy shot. Shots are placed at least 4 places around the kill zone. If you look very closely on a new target you may be able to see a telltale indication under the paint of faceplate of these proofing marks. A 4 ft/lb gun is then used to test the paddle. Targets never get to the painting process without passing this important testing.
A field target with a better design, better materials, or better construction simply cannot be found! If you want the best, look to Yegua field targets to deliver.
These field targets really are …
