- Hey! Are there shot marks on the faceplate of my Brand-New target?
ANSWER: Usually these are not evident. They are proof marks that usually disappear when the faceplate gets painted. We test targets leaving the production facility with a 20 ft/lb shot placed on each of the four corners of the field target kill zone to make sure the tripping mechanism is holding properly. We also shoot the kill zone strike plate with a 4 ft/lbs airgun to insure it will go down with lower powered airguns. Again, think of these as proofing marks.
- Can I really see proofing marks on my target?
ANSWER: Yes, if you know where and what to look for. Look around the outside edge of the KZ, usually a half inch to an inch away from the kill zone, There should be four or five very small pock marks under the paint around the kill zone. These were put there by a 20 ft/lb rifle. This is done to assure no Yegua field target can be shaken down by a 20 ft/lb rifle.
- So what is with this Republic of Texas thing and the President of Texas?
ANSWER: Texas owes its name to the Caddo tribe and the Spaniards. During the Spanish exploration of Texas in the 1540s, the Spaniards met the Hasnai-Caddo tribe in present-day East Texas. The American Indians used the word tayshas for "friends" or "allies." In Spanish, the translation came out as tejas. Over the years, Tejas became Texas. During its history, Texas has had eight changes of sovereignty, and six flags have flown over the state. They are: Spain (1519-1685 & 1690-1821); France (1685-1690); Mexico (1821-1836); Republic of Texas (1836-1845); Confederate States of America (1861-1865); and the United States of America (1845-1861 & 1865- ). The Republic of Texas existed from 1836 to 1845 and had five presidents. Sam Houston was elected president twice. Yup, its a Texas thang.
